About Us

The Silvi Group Companies is a family owned business that was founded in 1948 by Larry Silvi Sr.  A grocer by trade, he accepted possession of a run down block plant to satisfy a debt. Shortly thereafter, William J Levitt began to construct one of his large and affordable communities next to Mr. Silvi’s block plant. Larry Sr. struck a deal to supply the project and was off to the races.Thirty five years later, his sons John and Larry, took the reins of the company and helped transform it into the powerhouse it is today.  The Silvi’s strategy is to build large central mix plants close enough to one another so that they compliment each other.  The plant located next to their corporate headquarters in Fairless Hills, Pennsylvania runs up to forty trucks and can produce over 250 yards per hour.  With the help of another plant of the same magnitude in the area, Silvi Concrete delivered over 2700 yards of concrete for a warehouse floor in just over five hours.  It is not unusual for them to have a 1000+ yard pour going on any given day.

Silvi also has a wide and diversified customer base.  They service everyone from the homeowner and small builder to the large road and industrial contractor. They produce an excellent shotcrete mix used by many of the pool contractors in the region as well as low shrinkage, three-aggregate blended mix that is revolutionizing the commercial floor market.  Every type of craftsman in the field can find the product and timely service they require at Silvi Concrete.

Silvi Concrete services most of New Jersey and Southeastern Pennsylvania.  The Silvi fleet is comprised solely of front discharge mixers.  This eliminates the need for a man to hold and guide the chute and have a long, sixteen foot reach.  Many of the trucks have fiberglass barrels which don’t transfer heat or cold as quickly as conventional drums while in transit.  The concrete stays cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter.  This also allow you to put more concrete on each truck, cutting the delivery cost per yard you pay.  With well over a hundred trucks, Silvi Concrete can handle the surges that occur in this business on a daily basis.

Over the years, the Silvis have owned and mined several large sand quarries under the name of Sahara Sand. In the late 1990’s, they were able to secure a 1000 acre sand deposit in Eagleswood, NJ that contained over 130,000, 000 tons of reserve. This, combined with their other sand operations, will allow Sahara Sand to be a major distributor for hundreds of years.

The Silvi are deeply involved in the mining of stone as well. Gibraltar Rock operates two facilities. The largest with over 350,000,000 million tons of reserves sits on 750 acres in Belle Meade, NJ. It contains some of the most efficient and effective crushing equipment available. The other stone quarry is in New Hanover, PA and has 50,000,000 million tons of reserves. It is in the permitting process and is expected to go on line in the next few years.

The last component required to produce concrete is cement. In 1986 an abandoned paper mill on the Delaware River was purchased so that an import terminal could be constructed. A deep water port was constructed and a multi silo terminal was built. Riverside Construction Materials was created. Not only does it handle cement, but it also facilitates the importation of gypsum, salt, and heating oil delivered in vessels ranging from a 56,000 ton Super Max to ocean going and intercoastal barges. Cement products are off loaded via a state of the art and environmental friendly mechanical arm that reaches into the hull of the ships and vacuums the material out. It then pneumatically conveys the cement into several of the worlds largest cement blending and processing domes.

Every operation in the Silvi Arsenal is controlled by the most modern, efficient, and environmentally friendly equipment available.  Consistency and dependability are the fundamentals they live by.  They have long been recognized as a pioneer in the ready mix industry and are usually the first supplier in their marketplace to explore the use of new and innovative products.   They take pride in tackling high volume projects with extremely rigid specification and are always on the cutting edge of technology.  It’s no wonder they are the benchmark used by most concrete contractors to measure other producers.
