Meet Kyle Gaffney

Kyle Gaffney is the Mine Manager at Silvi Sand Port Norris, where he oversees daily operations for one of Silvi’s key sand mining sites. Kyle began his journey with Silvi through the Leadership Development Program after discovering the company during an internship as a seismograph technician. With a lifelong interest in geology and hands-on field work, he quickly found his place in mining operations. Today, he coordinates production, maintenance, and loading activities while leading his team to meet safety and production goals every day.

I started in the Leadership Development Program and now serve as Mine Manager at Silvi Sand Port Norris.

Current Responsibilities

I am the Mine Manager at Silvi Sand Port Norris. In this role, I oversee daily operations, including scheduling production, coordinating maintenance activities, and managing the loading of both trucks and barges. I work closely with my team to ensure we meet production goals safely and efficiently while keeping equipment in top condition. My position requires balancing operational planning with on-the-ground problem solving to keep the site running smoothly.

Why I Chose Silvi Materials

While interning as a seismograph technician, I had the opportunity to spend a day at Silvi’s Gibraltar site during one of their blasts. I was immediately impressed by the scale of the operation and the professionalism of the team. That experience left a strong impression, and when I later met additional team members at a career fair, I knew Silvi was the kind of company I wanted to be a part of.

Favorite Silvi Memory

My favorite memory is being part of the construction of Silvi Sand of Port Norris. The project took nearly a year to complete, and it was an incredible experience to see it come together from the ground up. Being on the team that built the very plant I now work in gave me a strong sense of pride and ownership. It also provided me with valuable opportunities to grow my project management skills and contribute to something lasting.
