The long-awaited beach replenishment has yet to happen, but last month, Toms River placed 7,060 cubic yards of sand on Barnegat peninsula beaches battered by a mid-December nor’easter.

Assistant Township Engineer Wendy A. Birkhead said the sand was placed on both the northern and southern beach areas of Toms River, including the Ortley Beach section, which has been dubbed “ground zero” by some residents after the damage caused there by superstorm Sandy in 2012. The sand was purchased from Sahara Sand in Eagleswood for $401,566, Birkhead said….
