For a company that operates more than 600 vehicles across multiple states, fleet safety is both a responsibility and a daily operational challenge.

A recent customer success story from Samsara highlights how Silvi Materials has used connected fleet technology to improve driver coaching, strengthen fleet visibility, and support the successful integration of more than 200 vehicles acquired through company growth.

The results speak for themselves: an 80% reduction in incidents, a 97% reduction in rear-end collisions, a 25% reduction in overall safety events, and an 18% reduction in at-fault incidents.

Those results reflect years of investment in safety, driver coaching, operational visibility, and continuous improvement across the organization.

Building a Fleet Safety Program That Can Scale

As Silvi Materials has grown, so has the complexity of our fleet. Today, we operate more than 600 vehicles and have integrated more than 200 additional vehicles through acquisitions in recent years.

That kind of growth requires a consistent safety culture, reliable data, strong communication, and tools that help teams coach proactively instead of reactively.

By implementing Samsara AI Dash Cams, Vehicle Gateways, digital DVIRs, Asset Tags, and automated coaching tools, Silvi Materials has improved visibility across the fleet while giving managers and drivers better information to support safer decisions.

Fleet Safety Starts with Protecting Drivers

One of the most important themes in the case study is driver protection.

Dash cam technology can sometimes be misunderstood as a surveillance tool. At Silvi Materials, the focus is different. The goal is to protect employees, support fair coaching, and provide accurate evidence when incidents occur.

As Glenn Desmond, Director of Fleet Operations at Silvi Materials, explained in the case study:

“Our dash cams are genuinely protecting our drivers.”

That point matters. In one head-on collision, Samsara dash cam footage helped show that the Silvi Materials driver was fully in his lane and responded correctly, helping protect the driver and the company from a potential seven-figure litigation claim.

Better Coaching, Stronger Outcomes

The case study also highlights how Silvi Materials has used in-cab alerts and automated coaching to help drivers correct behavior in real time. This approach has allowed the company to increase coached events without adding to manager workload.

Rather than relying only on after-the-fact reviews, the system helps create faster feedback loops and more consistent coaching across the organization.

That is especially important when integrating newly acquired fleets, where drivers may be coming from different safety systems, expectations, and operating cultures. Silvi Materials used a thoughtful onboarding approach, including a grace period for newly acquired fleets, to build trust while reinforcing consistent standards.

Improving Safety Across the Operation

Beyond driver coaching, Samsara technology has also helped Silvi Materials strengthen maintenance visibility and asset protection.

Digital DVIRs and connected vehicle data help ensure maintenance teams have more accurate information about vehicle condition, defects, and engine hours. Asset Tag technology has also helped the company reduce time spent locating equipment and recover $210,000 in stolen assets from one incident.

Together, these improvements support a safer, more efficient operation.

A Continued Commitment to Safety

The Samsara case study reinforces an important message: safety improvement does not happen by accident. It requires investment, leadership, employee trust, operational discipline, and a willingness to keep improving. For Silvi Materials, technology is one part of a larger commitment to protecting our people, serving our customers reliably, and operating as a best-in-class construction materials supplier.

We are proud to be featured by Samsara and grateful to the operations, fleet, safety, and driver teams whose work continues to move our safety culture forward.
