The Rumson–Sea Bright Bridge Replacement has been recognized as the 2025 New Jersey Concrete Awards Grand Award Winner, the highest honor presented annually by the New Jersey Chapter of the American Concrete Institute (ACI).

Silvi Materials is proud to have contributed to this landmark infrastructure project as both the ready-mix concrete supplier and cement supplier, helping deliver a bridge that will serve New Jersey residents, businesses, and visitors for decades to come.

Replacing a Critical Transportation Link

For more than 70 years, the Rumson–Sea Bright Bridge connected two vibrant Jersey Shore communities while serving as an important transportation corridor across the Shrewsbury River. Originally constructed in 1950, the bridge had reached the end of its useful life and no longer met modern design standards.

Recognizing the bridge’s importance to local residents and the broader region, Monmouth County partnered with the New Jersey Department of Transportation, the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority, and the Federal Highway Administration to advance a comprehensive replacement project. In addition to supporting daily traffic, the crossing serves as a critical coastal evacuation route, making long-term reliability and resilience essential project goals.

A Decade of Planning and Collaboration

Projects of this scale do not happen overnight.

The Rumson–Sea Bright Bridge replacement involved years of planning, engineering, environmental review, and community engagement. Beginning with the Local Concept Development phase, project stakeholders worked closely with residents, businesses, local officials, and regulatory agencies to evaluate alternatives and develop a solution that balanced transportation needs with community priorities.

Throughout the design process, the project team focused on improving safety, enhancing mobility, and maintaining the character of the surrounding communities while creating a bridge capable of meeting future demands.

The result was a carefully planned infrastructure investment designed to strengthen connectivity and improve the experience for motorists, pedestrians, and bicyclists alike.

Building While Keeping Communities Connected

One of the most impressive aspects of the project was the construction approach itself.

Rather than disrupting travel across the river for years, the new bridge was constructed alongside the existing structure, allowing traffic flow and pedestrian access to remain in place throughout construction. Once the new bridge was completed, traffic was shifted to the new crossing before the original bridge was removed.

The new Rumson–Sea Bright Bridge was built alongside the existing structure, allowing traffic and pedestrian access to remain open throughout construction.

This approach minimized disruption for residents, businesses, emergency services, and visitors while ensuring the communities on both sides of the river remained connected during construction.

The Role of Concrete in Modern Infrastructure

Award-winning infrastructure projects demand materials that can perform under challenging conditions for generations.

Concrete plays a critical role in delivering the durability, strength, and long-term performance required for bridges and transportation infrastructure. From supporting heavy traffic loads to withstanding exposure to harsh coastal environments, concrete remains one of the most reliable and resilient building materials available.

As both the ready-mix concrete supplier and cement supplier on the project, Silvi Materials was honored to contribute to a structure that exemplifies the quality, innovation, and craftsmanship recognized by this year’s New Jersey Concrete Awards.

A Shared Achievement

The Grand Award recognizes the collective efforts of the many organizations and individuals who helped bring this project to life, including Monmouth County, NJDOT, engineers, contractors (Richard E. Pierson Construction Company, Inc.), inspectors, suppliers, and community stakeholders.

The Rumson–Sea Bright Bridge replacement stands as a testament to what can be achieved through collaboration, thoughtful planning, and a shared commitment to building infrastructure that serves the public for generations.

Silvi Materials congratulates all project partners on this well-deserved recognition and is proud to have played a role in delivering one of New Jersey’s most significant recent infrastructure projects.
